National Conference vice president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday criticized the Union Budget, calling it a “coalition bachao budget” with a focus on Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.

Abdullah stated that coalition compulsions are evident in the third term of the BJP-led NDA government. He argued that Jammu and Kashmir received no significant allocations in the budget, despite facing severe unemployment and developmental challenges. “Investment was promised but is not visible on the ground,” he said, highlighting critical issues with water and electricity in the region.

Addressing an all-India viewpoint, Abdullah remarked that this appears to be a coalition government rather than a BJP government and that resources intended for other states are being redirected to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. As a result, chief ministers of several key states are boycotting the NITI Aayog meeting chaired by the prime minister.

In a pointed critique of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha’s favorable comments on the budget, Abdullah suggested that Sinha might not have fully understood the budget and was following directive talking points. Drawing parallels, he noted that a central minister also seemed unfamiliar with the budget specifics pertaining to their own ministry.
