Bangladesh has formally communicated its displeasure to India over West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's recent remarks about offering shelter to distressed individuals from Bangladesh, suggesting that her comments could create confusion and mislead the public.
At a public event in Kolkata, Banerjee talked about keeping the doors of West Bengal open for people from violence-hit Bangladesh. Her remarks were also posted on social media platform X.
According to Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry, Banerjee's social media comments could sow uncertainty among the populace. Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud emphasized their strong relations but noted the potential for confusion from Banerjee's statements. BJP leader Amit Malviya criticized Banerjee, asserting that foreign policy remains outside a state's purview.
