West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose has urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to refrain from making ''politically-motivated populist remarks'' on the current situation in neighboring Bangladesh, stressing that such comments could impact the nation's external affairs.
The Governor’s remark came after Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud expressed concerns over Banerjee's statement of offering ''shelter'' to Bangladesh citizens amidst ongoing protests in the country. Mahmud's objections were communicated through diplomatic channels.
Banerjee made the controversial remarks during the TMC's Martyrs Day rally in Kolkata and reiterated them on social media. Meanwhile, BJP leader Amit Malviya criticized Banerjee, calling her a source of embarrassment for both West Bengal and India.
