Jharkhand Assembly Disqualifies Legislators Under Anti-Defection Law

The Jharkhand Assembly disqualified JMM's Lobin Hembrom and Congress's Jai Prakash Bhai Patel under the anti-defection law effective from July 26. Both legislators faced proceedings after leaving their respective parties and contesting elections independently, ultimately losing. Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto cited voluntary renunciation of party membership for their disqualification.

In a significant parliamentary decision, the Jharkhand Assembly disqualified two legislators, JMM's Lobin Hembrom and Congress's Jai Prakash Bhai Patel, under the anti-defection law, effective from July 26.

The Speaker's Tribunal announced the disqualification on the eve of the assembly's monsoon session. Hembrom and Patel faced proceedings after independently contesting elections, departing from their respective parties.

Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto cited voluntary renunciation of party membership as the basis for their disqualification. Both legislators, despite emerging as influential leaders, claimed the process was rushed and unfair.
