Venezuela's opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez expressed confidence in the military's role in ensuring respect for the presidential election results this Sunday, he announced during a press conference on Thursday.
Gonzalez, who appeared alongside opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, has garnered significant support, including from former ruling party adherents. However, the opposition and some observers have expressed concerns over the fairness of the upcoming vote, citing decisions by electoral authorities and recent arrests as potential obstacles.
Machado, who has been banned from running in the election, urged voters to head to polling stations early and remain there throughout the day after casting their vote. She also called on those with motorcycles and cars to help transport voters whose polling stations have been relocated further from their homes.
