Union Minister Opposes Maratha Quota Under OBC Segment

Former Union Minister and BJP MP Bhagwat Karad stated that Marathas should not receive reservations under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota. He argued that the current 10% quota for Marathas granted by the Maharashtra government will withstand legal scrutiny. The proposal faces opposition from OBC groups.

Former Union Minister Bhagwat Karad on Monday declared that Marathas should not be given reservations under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) segment.

Karad, a Rajya Sabha MP, emphasized the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) clear stance on not diluting the OBC quota.

'The 10 per cent quota given to Marathas by the Maharashtra government will withstand legal scrutiny. As an OBC, I oppose extending the benefits of the OBC quota to the Maratha community,' he told reporters.

Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange has been leading a movement seeking OBC reservations for Marathas by issuing them Kunbi certificates. This move has faced strong opposition from OBC organizations.
