A no-confidence motion moved against Kancheepuram Mayor M Mahalakshmi by councillors, including members of her own party, the DMK, failed on Monday due to a lack of quorum, according to a senior official.
M Senthil Murugan, Commissioner of Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation, stated that officials were prepared for the session with ballot papers ready. However, no council members showed up.
'Since no member turned up, there was no quorum. So, the no-confidence motion did not succeed,' Murugan informed reporters without disclosing additional details.
The 51-member council, dominated by the ruling DMK, had reportedly seen over 30 councillors, including DMK members, move the no-confidence motion against Mahalakshmi, citing corruption among other accusations.
