A 22-year-old Haryana native, Ravi Moun, was reportedly sent to the frontline by the Russian Army to combat Ukrainian forces, resulting in his death, his family claimed on Monday.

The Indian embassy in Moscow confirmed the fatality, stating that Moun, from Matour village in Haryana's Kaithal district, traveled to Russia on January 13 for a transportation job but was conscripted into the military.

After receiving no word from him, his brother Ajay Moun wrote to the embassy on July 21. The embassy verified Moun's death and requested a DNA test for body identification.

Moun's family urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance in repatriating his remains, citing financial constraints after selling land to afford his trip to Russia.
