Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday accused the Samajwadi Party of being a 'serious threat' to the safety of women. He made these allegations during the Question Hour on the second day of the UP Assembly's Monsoon Session, responding to SP member Ragini Sonkar's question about the government's measures to prevent sexual exploitation of women and children.

Adityanath emphasized the government's commitment to women's safety, citing a continuous decline in crime rates. He also mentioned the formation of the Anti-Romeo Squad as a significant step against miscreants. 'It is sad to say that when the Anti-Romeo Squad was formed, the first to oppose it was the Samajwadi Party,' he remarked.

Referring to a controversial statement by SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, Adityanath accused the SP of having regressive attitudes towards crimes against women. He boasted a marked decrease in crimes since the BJP came to power, including a 25.30% reduction in rape incidents from 2016 to 2023-24. He also highlighted the increased rate of conviction and initiatives such as Women Power Line 1090.
