Heavy rainfall on Wednesday afternoon caused significant flooding at the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha building during the ongoing Monsoon session of the state assembly.
A two-hour deluge led to waterlogging in various parts of the state capital, particularly around the Vidhan Bhavan. The entrance used by MLAs and some rooms on the ground floor were especially affected, with staff resorting to buckets and mops for cleanup.
The situation drew criticism from the opposition. 'The state assembly needs the budget the most. If this is the condition after a single spell of heavy rain, then the rest of the state is at the mercy of God,' stated Samajwadi Party general secretary and MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav via a video post on X. Crucially, the chambers where the state legislative assembly and councils hold their sessions remained dry. Besides the Vidhan Sabha, Hazratganj Chowk in central Lucknow also suffered from flooding.
