Key Legislative Amendments and Discussions Dominate Parliamentary Session

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce a bill to amend the Disaster Management Act, 2005, in both Houses of Parliament on Thursday. Additionally, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will propose a statutory resolution concerning Section 8A of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi are slated to support the second report of the Business Advisory Committee, presented on July 31. Moreover, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu will push for the election of two members to the council of the National Institutes of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management (NIFTEM), while Union Minister Manohar Lal seeks to elect two members to the Advisory Council of the Delhi Development Authority.

Matters under Rule 377 will also be discussed, alongside further deliberation on the Union Budget for 2024-25. The session includes discussions and voting on grant demands for the Ministries of Railways, Education, and Health and Family Welfare for the fiscal year 2024-25.

Several Union Ministers—including Jual Oram, Shripad Yesso Naik, Suresh Gopi, Ajay Tamta, Ravneet Singh, Tokhan Sahu, Raj Bhushan Choudhary, and Murlidhar Mohol—will table papers in Lok Sabha for their respective ministries. Similarly, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Jitendra Singh, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Kirtivardhan Singh, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, and Sukanta Majumdar will do so in Rajya Sabha.

The Rajya Sabha will also engage in discussions on the functioning of various ministries, including Housing and Urban Affairs and Agriculture and Farmer Welfare. BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari initiated the discussion on the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on July 31. The monsoon session of Parliament, which began on July 22, is scheduled to conclude on August 12.
