Police have registered a case against Congress MLA Channareddy Tannur and his son Pampanagouda Tannur after Dalit sub-inspector Parashuram's alleged suicide, linked to his transfer.

The duo face charges of intentional insult, abetment of suicide, and joint criminal liability following a complaint by Parashuram's wife, Shwetha, who claimed they demanded a Rs 30 lakh bribe.

Home Minister G Parameshwara denied the death was a suicide, yet ordered an investigation. The incident prompted political criticism from BJP and JD(S), accusing the government of driving honest officers to extreme actions.
