Mexican Government Submits Request for Ex-Vice President Jorge Glas's Transfer
The Mexican government has submitted a request to allow Ecuador's jailed former Vice President Jorge Glas to travel to a third country. Relations between Mexico and Ecuador deteriorated after Ecuadorean authorities forcibly entered Mexico's embassy in Ecuador to arrest Glas, who had been granted asylum by Mexico.
The Mexican government announced on Monday that it had formally submitted a request to permit Ecuador's incarcerated former Vice President Jorge Glas to transfer to a third country.
Relations between the two nations soured in April when Ecuadorean officials forcefully entered the Mexican embassy to detain Glas, despite his asylum status granted by Mexico.
The move, described as a breach of diplomatic protocol, led to Mexico severing relations with Ecuador.
