Amna Baloch Poised to Become New Foreign Secretary of Pakistan
Amna Baloch, an experienced diplomat, is set to become Pakistan's new Foreign Secretary. She will take over from Dr. Syrus Sajjad Qazi upon his retirement. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif approved the appointment based on Deputy PM Ishaq Dar's recommendations. Baloch is currently Ambassador to the EU, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
Amna Baloch, a seasoned diplomat, is set to become Pakistan's new Foreign Secretary, according to a media report on Thursday.
Currently the Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg, Baloch will take over on September 11, replacing Dr. Syrus Sajjad Qazi, reported The News International.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif approved the appointment based on the recommendations of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, who is also serving as the Foreign Minister, sources in the Prime Minister's Office stated.
Baloch, a Foreign Service of Pakistan officer since 1991, will be the second woman to become a federal secretary under the Shahbaz administration this month. She follows Ambreen Jan, who was appointed Secretary for Information and Broadcasting earlier.
Holding a master's degree in history, Baloch has served as High Commissioner to Malaysia and held various important roles in headquarters and missions abroad, including Consul General in Chengdu, China.
