Muhammad Yunus Takes Charge of 27 Ministries in Bangladesh's Interim Government
Bangladesh's interim leader Muhammad Yunus has announced the newly-appointed council of advisors and assumed control of 27 ministries, including defence. Nobel laureate Yunus earlier replaced Sheikh Hasina, who resigned amidst protests. Career diplomat Mohammad Touhid Hossain will head the foreign ministry, while other key positions have been distributed among various experts.
Bangladesh's interim leader Muhammad Yunus has announced the portfolios for the newly-appointed council of advisors and taken charge of 27 ministries, including defence, on Friday.
Nobel laureate Yunus, 84, took the oath as the interim head of government on Thursday, replacing Sheikh Hasina. Hasina resigned and fled to India following deadly protests against her over a controversial jobs quota system.
Career diplomat Mohammad Touhid Hossain will head the foreign ministry, while other key positions include former foreign secretary Hossain at the foreign ministry and former Bangladesh Bank governor Salahuddin Ahmed at the finance and planning ministries. The interim cabinet also includes student leaders and civil society figures.
