Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Friday missed his court appearance due to the ongoing Parliament session. The court postponed the hearing to August 12. This case dates back to a 2001 protest over poor electricity supply, involving Singh and five others, who were convicted and sentenced to three years' imprisonment in 2023.

In addition to Singh, former SP MLA and national spokesperson Anoop Sanda was also scheduled to appear in the MP/MLA court. Singh’s lawyer, Madan Singh, informed the court about Singh’s inability to attend due to the Parliament session and sought more time. The presiding Magistrate was also on leave that day.

As per Special Public Prosecutor Vaibhav Pandey, the 2001 demonstration saw participation from Singh, former councillors Kamal Srivastava, Vijay Kumar, Santosh, and Subhash Chaudhary. A case was registered against all six at Kotwali Nagar Police Station. Earlier this year, Special Magistrate Yogesh Yadav convicted them, and an appeal against the conviction was dismissed last Tuesday, thereby upholding the prison sentence.
