The BJP on Friday accused the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government of financially burdening the public by raising the diesel tax by Rs 7 per litre, resulting in a Rs 2,500 crore impact on residents.

The government has also curtailed previously granted free travel for police, withdrawn fare concessions for women in HRTC buses, and imposed extra charges for luggage, according to BJP leader Rajeev Bindal.

Bindal stated that the government is increasing public expenses under the pretext of economic self-reliance while failing to meet its poll promises.

The Congress government has raised the cess on power by 19 percent and discontinued a scheme providing 125 units of free electricity, affecting 10 lakh families. Rural families will now have to pay Rs 100 monthly for water, impacting 856 crore people, he said.
