In a letter to Singh's wife Heminder Kumari, Gandhi expressed her sorrow, noting that the loss of her life companion must be extraordinarily painful.

Gandhi highlighted Singh's diverse interests and active contributions in various fields, recognizing that he will be missed by a wide circle of friends. Singh, who was 93, passed away on Saturday night after a prolonged illness at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

Singh's multifaceted career spanned diplomacy, politics, and writing. Appointed as the external affairs minister in 2004, he later resigned from his post and the Congress Party following controversy linked to the Oil-for-Food programme in 2005.
