Senior Congress leader O Ibobi Singh on Tuesday called on the BJP government in Manipur to facilitate the return of people displaced by ethnic violence, stressing that this is essential for restoring normalcy in the state.

Singh, a former chief minister, indicated that the opposition is ready to assist the government in achieving this goal.

"If there is a government in the state, it should effectively manage law and order. Even the apex court has noted that law and order in Manipur have completely failed, and constitutional machinery has collapsed. We merely seek to restore law and order so that the people of the state can live peacefully and normally," Singh stated.

He demanded that displaced individuals residing in relief camps be permitted to return to their homes, insisting that this would pave the way for peace. Singh added that the opposition stands ready to provide any necessary assistance.

Singh, who leads the Congress legislature party, further alleged that the state government has failed across multiple areas, including sports, economy, and culture.

"The state has entirely collapsed. We have the highest commodity prices in the country, and this government is surviving on loans, continually borrowing to repay previous debts," he claimed.
