In an emphatic Independence Day speech, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the ongoing issues of terrorism and democratic progress in Jammu and Kashmir. Sinha remarked on the dwindling local recruitment into terrorist ranks, attributing it to the increasing faith of the people in democracy, as shown by the record voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections.

Sinha criticized Pakistan for attempting to disrupt the region's stability by sending foreign terrorists, partly due to its inability to provide basic amenities to its own citizens. He acknowledged recent terror attacks in Jammu, paying tribute to the officers and civilians who lost their lives.

The L-G expressed confidence that such incidents would soon be curtailed. Lauding local security forces for their bravery and achievements, including numerous medals for gallantry, Sinha also emphasized the administration's zero-tolerance policy towards narco-terrorism. He encouraged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to enthusiastically participate in forthcoming assembly elections, predicting an increased voter turnout.
