West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused opposition political parties of orchestrating the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Banerjee clarified she does not hold the students or doctors responsible for the protests, instead pointing fingers at certain political parties attempting to incite unrest.
"Police are investigating. I don't have any complaints against the students or agitating doctors. But it's clear some political parties are trying to create trouble. If you review the video footage, you will see what happened," she said.
Around midnight, a group of about 40 people, posing as protesters, invaded the hospital, vandalizing the emergency department, nursing station, and medicine store. They also damaged CCTV cameras and ransacked a stage where junior doctors had been demonstrating since August 9.
