Omar Abdullah Welcomes Long-Awaited J&K Assembly Elections

Omar Abdullah, National Conference vice-president, expressed approval for the Election Commission's announcement of a three-phased assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah, vice-president of the National Conference (NC), on Friday welcomed the Election Commission's announcement of a three-phased assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it was better late than never.

Speaking to reporters, Abdullah noted that the people of J&K had been waiting a long time for this, lauding the Chief Election Commissioner for stressing the importance of free and fair polls. However, he raised concerns about recent transfers within the police and civil administration, suggesting that they might favor the BJP.

Abdullah also disclosed ongoing discussions with the Congress regarding a potential alliance but admitted that time constraints posed a challenge. The NC vice-president expressed the party's readiness for elections despite the absence of Article 370, emphasizing the need for balanced security measures for politicians in the region.
