Nobel Laureate Mohammad Yunus, in his initial contact with New Delhi after becoming head of Bangladesh's interim government, assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi of focusing on the protection and safety of Hindus and other minority groups during a phone conversation on Friday.

Modi reiterated India's commitment to a democratic, stable, peaceful, and progressive Bangladesh and emphasized the importance of ensuring the protection of minority communities. Yunus invited Indian journalists to visit Bangladesh to report on the ground realities of minority protection.

Yunus's assurances came a day after Modi expressed India's concerns over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh during his Independence Day speech. Modi also invited Yunus to join the third Voice of Global South Summit, hosted virtually by New Delhi.
