Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday stressed the urgent need for de-escalation of tensions in West Asia during a telephonic conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The discussion also touched upon the immediate release of hostages and the continuation of humanitarian aid.
In a message on X, Modi stated that Netanyahu extended warm wishes on India's 78th Independence Day. 'We discussed the current situation in West Asia, highlighting the necessity to de-escalate tensions. We reiterated the call for the immediate release of hostages, a ceasefire, and the ongoing provision of humanitarian assistance,' Modi said.
The Ministry of External Affairs later confirmed that Modi received a call from Netanyahu, during which both leaders discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and agreed to strengthen the India-Israel Strategic Partnership. Modi reiterated the need for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.
