President Xi Jinping on Monday called for improved management of differences between China and Vietnam regarding their maritime disputes. Xi met with Vietnam's new top leader, To Lam, amidst escalating tensions in the disputed South China Sea.
Lam, who recently took over as the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, held crucial talks with Xi. The two leaders discussed the critical stage of national development and revitalization, aiming to consolidate higher political mutual trust, security cooperation, practical cooperation, and resolution of differences.
In a gesture of improved relations, the two leaders witnessed the signing of 14 agreements to enhance cooperation between their countries. Xi highlighted that China takes Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy and will support Vietnam's leadership and socialist modernization.
