Mayawati Hails Centre's Rollback on Lateral Entry in Bureaucracy

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati claimed that the Center has withdrawn its lateral entry recruitment advertisement after her party's opposition, emphasizing the need to halt 'anti-reservation processes.' The move came after criticism from opposition parties for undermining reservation rights. Mayawati called for peaceful protests and constitutional amendments.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday announced that the Central government has withdrawn its advertisement for lateral entry recruitment in the bureaucracy. She attributed the rollback to her party's firm opposition to what she termed 'anti-reservation processes.'

The Centre's directive to the UPSC to pull the ad comes amid heated discussions about reservation in the advertised posts.

'The central government has revoked the appointments of 47 individuals to high-paying senior roles like Joint Secretary and Director. This decision was influenced by the BSP's robust opposition to bypassing the regular reservation process. It's crucial to end all such anti-reservation actions,' Mayawati stated on social media.

Furthermore, Mayawati urged the Centre to amend the Constitution to restore the previous reservation system for SC-ST, challenging the Supreme Court's decision from August 1, 2024. She called for a peaceful 'Bharat Bandh' by the affected communities scheduled for the next day.

On August 17, the UPSC had announced the recruitment of 45 joint secretaries, directors, and deputy secretaries through lateral entry. This move sparked backlash from opposition parties, who argued it compromised the reservation rights of SCs, STs, and OBCs.
