The BJP on Tuesday announced that senior party leader Kiran Choudhry would be its nominee from Haryana for the upcoming Rajya Sabha bypoll. Choudhry switched from Congress to BJP almost two months ago. The bypoll became necessary following Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda’s election to the Lok Sabha from Rohtak.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the party's state legislature group, Haryana Agriculture Minister Kanwar Pal confirmed Choudhry’s nomination. He stated that Choudhry would file her papers on Wednesday. Given the BJP’s majority in the state assembly, it is highly likely that Choudhry will secure the Rajya Sabha seat.
Earlier on Tuesday, Choudhry resigned from her position as a member of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. Her resignation was subsequently accepted by the assembly speaker. The former Haryana minister and MLA from Tosham joined the BJP in June along with her daughter Shruti and their supporters.
