During the visit, Putin met with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and praised volunteer fighters at a special forces academy before paying respects at the grave of Kadyrov’s father. Putin criticized Ukraine for attempting to destabilize Russia.
The visit included a meeting with mothers of children who died in the 2004 Beslan school attack. Putin vowed to punish those destabilizing Russia and drew parallels between the attackers and Ukraine's actions.
