Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced that the ruling BJP is aiming to enroll five lakh new members in the state during its ongoing membership drive.

Filing his own membership form alongside BJP Goa unit president Sadanand Shet Tanavade and Union minister Shripad Yesso Naik, Sawant said the initiative is part of the party's nationwide effort to expand its base. 'Among the 12.5 lakh voters in the state, the party wants to enroll five lakh people as its members,' he stated.

Sawant highlighted that during the previous membership drive, the party had successfully enrolled four lakh new members. 'Members of the party have equal rights in the BJP office, akin to the state party president or the chief minister,' he noted. The BJP has been growing its presence in southern states and has shown strong performance in the north, he added.
