Union Minister Giriraj Singh has intensified his call for a nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC), citing allegations of illegal activities involving mosques and the WAQF Board in Himachal Pradesh. Singh urged Rahul Gandhi to clarify his stance on the matter, asserting that the unchecked immigration poses severe national security risks.
Speaking about the influx of Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants, Singh highlighted that even Congress Minister Anirudh Singh in the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sing Sukhu supported proper verification processes for newcomers. According to Giriraj Singh, illegal constructions of mosques, allegedly used for terror-related activities, are rampant in the state.
Further, Singh criticized the WAQF Board for its alleged illegal occupation of lands, pointing out that many development projects have been stalled due to WAQF property claims. He accused Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi of inciting division, saying, "If this was Pakistan or Bangladesh, Owaisi's voice would have been muzzled by now." Meanwhile, Anirudh Singh called for lawful development and emphasized the need for stringent verification measures to ensure the security of the region.
