Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has accused the Congress of using wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia as pawns in a conspiracy to seize control of the WFI and target the BJP. He alleges this was part of a vendetta after he defeated Congress leader Deepender Hooda in the 2012 WFI election.

Phogat and Punia, who have been prominent faces in protests against Singh over sexual harassment charges, recently joined the Congress. Singh claims they were manipulated by prominent Congress figures, including former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Hooda. He describes this as a political move to attack the BJP and further the Congress's agenda.

Singh also refuted allegations from Phogat, saying her claims of misconduct occurred when he was not present. Phogat is now contesting the Julana assembly seat in Haryana for the Congress, while Punia has been appointed as the working chairman of the All India Kisan Congress.
