AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday announced that former Aurangabad Lok Sabha MP Imtiaz Jaleel will contest the upcoming Maharashtra assembly polls.
Addressing a press conference, Owaisi also revealed the candidacies of Mufti Ismail, Shah Faruk Anwar, Farooq Shabdi, and Raees Lashkariya. Ismail is the MLA from Malegaon Central, Anwar serves as legislator from Dhule city, while Lashkariya heads the party's Mumbai unit.
Jaleel had previously lost the 2024 Lok Sabha polls to Shiv Sena's Sandipan Bhumre. Owaisi criticized the Waqf Amendment Bill tabled in Parliament, urging Ajit Pawar-led NCP to oppose it for giving too much power to the collector on decisions regarding Waqf land.
