A Delhi court on Wednesday issued an order for the release of Lok Sabha MP from Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, who was granted interim bail in a terror funding case the previous day.

Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh provided Sheikh Abdul Rashid, widely known as Engineer Rashid, interim relief to allow him to campaign in the union territory's assembly elections.

Rashid, who defeated former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate, leads the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), contesting the upcoming assembly elections. The elections for the 90-member legislative assembly will take place in three phases between September 18 and October 1, with results to be declared on October 8.

The ADJ ordered Rashid's release on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and a surety of the same amount, imposing conditions including a media gag on discussing the case.
