Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik expressed their profound grief over the passing of veteran CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury.

Patnaik, also the BJD president, noted that Yechury will be greatly missed in discussions on national issues.

In a message on X, the Raj Bhavan stated, 'Hon'ble Governor is saddened to hear about the demise of @cpimspeak General Secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP #SitaramYechury after a prolonged illness. He conveys his deep condolences to the family and friends.'

Majhi also extended his heartfelt condolences to Yechury's bereaved family members. Yechury, aged 72, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after battling a prolonged illness.

He had been in a critical condition for the past few days and was on respiratory support. Sharing a photo with Yechury on X, Patnaik mentioned, 'Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of veteran CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury after prolonged illness. The eloquent, erudite, and affable leader will be sorely missed in national debates. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, friends, and followers in this hour of grief. #OmShanti.'
