Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has reported that the recent floods and rains have caused more than Rs 10,000 crore in damages across the state.
Reddy met with a central team visiting the flood-hit areas and urgently requested immediate funds for relief efforts.
The Chief Minister highlighted that recent heavy rains led to significant damage in the state, citing comprehensive estimates across various departments totaling Rs 10,032 crore.
During a meeting at the Secretariat, Reddy stressed the extensive damage caused and pressed for unconditional release of assistance.
Reddy addressed the impracticality of current funding rules, which would not allow the state to use even a single rupee of the Rs. 1350 crores available in the NDRF.
He proposed establishing a fund for taking permanent preventive measures against future floods.
The central team spent three days assessing the affected areas and held discussions with the state Chief Secretary on September 11.
Preliminary estimates put the flood damage at Rs 5,438 crores, with 29 lives lost due to heavy rainfall and flooding earlier this month.
Reddy also highlighted an ecological disaster in Mulugu district, where a sudden cloudburst and storm uprooted approximately 50,000 trees over 500 acres.
He urged for a scientific study by experts from Delhi to advise on necessary preventive measures, as per the official release.
