A TMC councillor from Dankuni Municipality allegedly breached the security cordon of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday, according to officials.
The incident occurred at the Dankuni toll plaza in Hooghly district when ward 16 councillor Subhajit Ganguly approached Banerjee's convoy, attempting to hand her an envelope.
Chief Minister Banerjee signalled for the envelope to be handed to the cars at the tail end of the convoy. A video of the episode went viral on social media.
Chandannagar's Police Commissioner Amit P Javalgi, who was nearby, intervened promptly, taking Ganguly to a local police station for questioning.
''He went very close to the CM's car, which is a significant security breach,'' a senior police officer stated. Ganguly, however, denied any involvement in the incident.
