The second phase of polling in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections saw a voter turnout of over 56 per cent on Wednesday, with the democratic exercise passing off peacefully amid tight security.

Significant participation was noted in key constituencies across 26 seats in six districts, although 20 of these segments recorded slightly lower turnout compared to the 2014 elections. The first phase, held on September 18, saw a 61.38 per cent voter turnout, and the final phase is set for October 1.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer P.K. Pole announced a preliminary figure of 56.05 per cent, with the highest turnout in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi constituency at 79.95 per cent. Over 15,000 security personnel were deployed to maintain order.
