Kerala Protests Ignite Tensions Over CM's Alleged Statements

Intense protests erupted in Kerala's capital, driven by opposition UDF youth wings demanding the resignation of CM Pinarayi Vijayan over controversial statements and alleged RSS links of IPS officers. Despite police barriers and use of water cannons, protestors persisted, leading to several arrests.

The Kerala state capital was a focal point of unrest on Tuesday as youth wings from opposition UDF parties staged vigorous protests. They called for the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, following statements linked to him regarding Malappuram and alleged RSS affiliations of certain senior IPS officers.

In response to the growing agitation, a large police force was deployed to keep demonstrators from advancing near the state assembly complex. Authorities resorted to using water cannons multiple times to control the crowd but failed to fully disperse the protestors.

Despite the police deploying tear gas shells, which unfortunately missed their targets, the demonstrators, including members of the Youth Congress, Youth League, and RYF, remained undeterred. They engaged in throwing objects at the police and attempted to dismantle the barricades. Ultimately, some protestors were taken into custody after they blocked the road by staging a sit-in.
