Discontent is brewing within the opposition BJP in Jharkhand as several senior leaders leave the party ahead of the state assembly elections. At the core of their dissatisfaction is the inclusion of candidates from outside the party at the cost of loyal members, fueling resentment among the rank and file.
Polling for the 81-member assembly is scheduled for November 13 and 20, with results to be announced on November 23. Some leaders argue that the BJP has favored turncoats over dedicated long-term party workers, diminishing morale within the ranks. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma assures that these grievances are typical of a large party and plans to address them.
Despite the internal discord, BJP leaders remain confident of securing a favorable outcome, contesting 68 seats alongside their allies. The party faces stiff competition after losing power to the JMM-led alliance in 2019, who are rallying on their home turf with a consolidated base.
