The upcoming Vav assembly bypoll in Gujarat's Banaskantha district promises a riveting three-way contest. The Congress has fielded former MLA Gulabsinh Rajput against BJP's Swaroopji Thakor, but an unexpected twist comes with the saffron party's rebel Mavji Patel entering the fray as an independent candidate.
Scheduled for Wednesday, voting will occur across 321 polling booths from 7 AM to 6 PM. The Vav seat, a known Congress stronghold, became vacant after MLA Geniben Thakor resigned to serve in the Lok Sabha.
A total of seven additional candidates, mostly independents, are also competing for votes. This dynamic race highlights the intricate political landscape, with the Thakor, Chaudhary, Dalit, Maldhari (OBC), and Brahmin communities playing crucial roles in the voter base of 3.10 lakh registered electors.
