Tensions flared at the Puducherry territorial Assembly as independent legislator Nehru, alias Kuppusamy, staged a protest during Wednesday's session, accusing Speaker R Selvam of partisan actions and demanding proceedings be chaired by the Deputy Speaker.
The disruption came despite the assembly's agenda proceeding with a condolence resolution by Chief Minister N Rangasamy. The resolution mourned the passing of leaders including former Puducherry Chief Minister M D R Ramachandran and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Speaker's decision to suspend Nehru did not impede the Assembly's business as it unanimously adopted a resolution expressing support for the Speaker. The session ended with tributes to other significant figures and a proposal to honor Ramachandran's legacy in his constituency.
