The political landscape in Manipur remains clouded with uncertainty four days after the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has yet to announce a new leader, leaving the state's governance in a precarious position.
In an unexpected move, State Forest Minister Th. Bishwajit departed Imphal for Guwahati, without an official explanation. Continued discussions between BJP's northeast in-charge Sambit Patra and the party's legislators have yet to break the impasse. Meanwhile, Patra has engaged with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla multiple times, alongside state party president A Sharda Devi, seeking a resolution.
Commenting on the situation, MLA Karam Shyam assured there is no constitutional crisis and expects central intervention. Meanwhile, Congress MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar criticized Patra's visit, attributing it to stalling discussions for a new leadership. Experts warn that without a claimant for governance, Manipur could stand on the brink of a constitutional crisis, potentially leading to President's rule.
