Amid a heated debate in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju addressed the uproar surrounding the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Rijiju categorically denied any deletions or removals of dissent from the report, countering opposition claims of irregularities. As a result, opposition leaders dramatically staged a walkout in protest.
Rijiju dismissed these allegations as baseless, asserting, "There have been no deletions or removals from the report. Everything is on the floor of the House. The opposition is fabricating issues without evidence." He maintained that the JPC followed due procedure and that opposition members were actively involved in all proceedings over the last six months.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni presented the JPC's findings amid chaos in the Upper House, leading to an adjournment. She highlighted that the report included comprehensive evidence gathered nationwide and 25 amendments across 14 clauses. Opposition disruptions resumed once proceedings restarted, underscoring ongoing political tensions.
