Amid growing diplomatic tensions, Congress leader P Chidambaram expressed concern over the arrival of a second US aircraft in Amritsar on Saturday, carrying Indian citizens deported for alleged illegal migration. Chidambaram stated that this situation serves as a critical test for Indian diplomacy.

In a social media post, Chidambaram highlighted previous events of February 5, where a US Air Force plane landed in Amritsar with 104 deported Indian nationals. He criticized the Ministry of External Affairs for mishandling the situation and raised concerns about safeguards for those identified by the US as illegal immigrants.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also criticized the Center, questioning the repeated choice of Amritsar for deportee landings. Mann suggested this choice was a calculated move to defame Punjabis, urging a change in the landing site for ongoing deportations to avoid international diplomatic strain and regional backlash.
