Navigating Geopolitical Complexities: Jaishankar Urges G20 Unification

In a two-day visit to South Africa, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the G20's crucial role in unifying global perspectives amid geopolitical challenges. Addressing issues like the Ukraine conflict, data transparency, and climate concerns, Jaishankar highlighted the need for diplomacy and international cooperation to advance the global agenda.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the complexities of the global geopolitical landscape during his visit to South Africa for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. He emphasized the importance of harmonizing viewpoints to advance the global agenda amidst challenges such as the Covid pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, financial strains, and climate concerns.

Jaishankar warned of current anxieties including concentrated supply chains and the weaponization of trade and finance. He underscored the necessity for cooperation and dialogue, especially with respect to geopolitical implications of advances in artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, space, drones, and green hydrogen.

The minister presented India's position on crucial issues such as the Ukraine conflict, UN reforms, and Indo-Pacific challenges, stressing the significance of adhering to international laws and agreements. He positioned the G20 as a critical platform for fostering global economic cooperation and stability amidst prevailing international tensions.
