The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP launched a strong critique against Congress on Friday following remarks by Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra. Karra called for a review of the Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan, indicating to the BJP a tacit acknowledgment of Jawaharlal Nehru's blunder in the agreement's original signing.
Responding to Karra's comments, the BJP demanded an apology from Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi for what it termed as the 'biggest blunder' in India's history. The Indus Water Treaty, signed in 1960 after extensive negotiations, outlines cooperation between India and Pakistan on water resource management.
Karra, president of the J-K Pradesh Congress Committee, argued that the region's people suffered most due to the treaty. Senior BJP leader Abhijeet Jasrotia criticized Congress for failing to address the perceived inequities in the treaty during subsequent governments, calling it a series of 'historical blunders.'
