Tragic Case of Mistaken Identity Unfolds Amid Hostage Exchange

This discovery led to heightened tensions, with Prime Minister Netanyahu condemning Hamas for a ceasefire violation. The correct remains were handed over, and hostages continue to be exchanged.

The emotional turmoil escalated as Shiri Bibas, an Israeli mother believed to have been returned by Palestinian militants, was mistakenly identified. The original report stated that Hamas returned Bibas' remains alongside her two young sons and an additional hostage.
Testing, however, revealed that the remains purported to be Shiri Bibas were of an unidentified Palestinian woman. This shocking revelation drew fierce criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who condemned Hamas for what he labeled a “cruel and malicious violation” of the ceasefire.
Amid rising tensions, Palestinian militants corrected the error late Friday by transferring the accurate remains to the Red Cross, which confirmed Shiri Bibas' identity early Saturday. Despite this, both sides are proceeding with further planned exchanges under the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
