US President Donald Trump has announced impending reciprocal tariffs on countries such as India and China, aiming to balance international trade charges. Speaking while swearing in Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Trump reiterated promises made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent US visit.
Trump, speaking with Fox News earlier, stressed the simplicity of the new approach: “We charge what they charge.” This principle of fairness was emphasized during a joint interview with Elon Musk, highlighting that India will not be exempt.
Praising Commerce Secretary Lutnick, Trump reflected on the past success of the US economy and shared his humor about 'tariff' once being a favorite word. He humorously relegated it to fourth place behind 'family', 'love', and 'God.'
