A Delhi court has sentenced former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar to life imprisonment for his involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The decision was welcomed by BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, who commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appointing a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in 2014 to reopen the case.

Chugh highlighted the atrocities committed by Congress workers during the riots and called for strict action against the remaining accused. Meanwhile, the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee's General Secretary, Jagdip Singh Kahlon, expressed his discontent over Kumar not receiving the death penalty, despite acknowledging the justice served by the life sentence.

Kumar's sentencing relates to the murder of a father and son in the Saraswati Vihar area, an incident tied to the broader violence ignited by the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984. The unrest led to the deaths of at least 2,800 people in Delhi alone, marking one of India's darkest chapters.
