In a significant turn of events, Turkish police have detained Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Koseler, a key figure from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), along with 20 others, over alleged collusive tendering. According to NTV, this marks an intensifying crackdown on opposition figures by the government.

An Istanbul prosecutor ordered the detention as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in three concerts organized by the Beykoz Municipality last year. The detention extends to the municipality's cultural issues representative, with allegations linking them to criminal activities.

This series of arrests is seen by critics as an attempt to silence dissent and weaken President Tayyip Erdogan's electoral rivals. The government, however, argues that the judiciary acts independently. CHP leader Ozgur Ozel condemns the actions as politically motivated, reflecting a fear of losing forthcoming elections.
